A PXI system fitted with a 6½ digit PXI Multimeter card to measure the resistance and two Adlink PXI-7921 relay multiplexer modules to switch between 50 different test points. The results are then stored and displayed graphically using a Windows based software package.
The multiplexers allow connection of up to 48 channels into the terminals. Two multiplexers are used at each end of the 25 line-wiring loom. Each multiplexer can be configured as 1, 2 or 4-wire outputs with 48, 24 or 12 way switching on the input channels.
Automating this solution with a PXI system speeds up productivity and reduces operator errors. The need for human contact is greatly reduced with the hardware measuring, displaying and logging the data. The end result is a report produced showing the pass or fail of the system under test.
Flexibility is introduced with up to 48 available channels that can be reconfigured and expanded with the addition of further switches or matrix boards.
Further functionality on the DMM gives the flexibility for new test requirements to be automated by utilising the new PXI equipment. The system can be developed further for either alternative tests or to expand on the existing application. For example A/D boards can be added to measure pressure and temperature, or a relay card to a process.
Using PXI as your solution means that the need for human intervention is much reduced, therefore speed and accuracy are greatly improved. The benefit of such a system offers a low cost of ownership over the lifetime of the product and an ROI against a manually operated system.
