The Garrettcom range of modular switches and CS14 media converters were recently deployed in the existing plant wide fibre network of a 2.4GW coal fired power station. The media converters were connected on their copper side via 10BaseT to data acquisition nodes distributed around the plant and 10BaseFL, on the fibre side, to switches on the plant's Ethernet backbone.
The modular switches were used to expand the network capability and concentrate fibre channels making the most efficient use of the existing fibre runs.
The switches were reported to be, "Very easy to use with minimal effort required to achieve an operational system."
Since installation in June 2004, the units have proved 100% reliable.
The customer's choice was based on the following attributes of the Garrettcom range:
Robustness - Environmental specifications & conformal coating Flexibility - Copper & fibre connections & operating voltages Value for money - High performance but not the highest price
