A local pharmaceutical company had a requirement for recording and archiving temperature measurements from a set of temperature controlled environmental chambers. The temperatures varied from -70°C to +65°C. There were ten chambers in a variety of sizes from a small microwave up to a full size walk in freezer.
Because of the pharmaceutical nature of the business it was essential to provide a solution that adhered to FDA 21 CFR 11 compliance standards. The accuracy of the recordings were required to be at least ± 1°C.
The customer also needed to alert a member of the on-site support team to any anomalies in the temperature of the environmental chambers. For example if a door had been left open or a fuse had blown, an alarm would automatically be raised.
Amplicon supplied a data logging solution that would interface to their PC network. The TopMessage unit manufactured by Delphin was ideal for this application since both the embedded hardware and optional software is fully FDA 21 CFR compliant. Additionally the TopMessage unit was be supplied with a GSM modem to page the support team. A system designed for RTD inputs was specified along with grade 'A' RTDs (Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors) for all of the chambers.
The system specified gave the customer security and confidence that if the host PC was to crash, the data being logged (and any control if required) would still be recorded and controlled by the TopMessage device. This functionality provided the customer with additional redundancy compared to standard PC based data acquisition and control systems.
As an additional service, Amplicon's engineers are able to visit the customer's site and perform a calibration check at the manufacturers recommended interval. This optional service ensures that any future downtime of the Delphin system is kept to an absolute minimum.
