Digital Self service for manned/unmanned petrol stations
The client is an international system integrator for global petrol station automation from EPOS (Electronic Point of Sales) tills, through to self-service integration for fuel pumps.
The client required a reliable system for self-service point of sale (POS). This system needed to feature an intuitive touchscreen display with IP65 protected front bezel, and needed to be able to accept card payments in a simple and easy fashion; it was hoped that this would in turn increase turn over, and allow stations to be opened 24/7 with minimal staffing during night shifts. The client required the system to be rugged and robust to allow for installation into the existing petrol stations fuel pump metalwork, also the system would be exposed to natural elements and potentially heavy-handed users.
After the client evaluation, the Amplicon engineering team designed a system including the iEi UPC-12AH and AFLP-12AMSR magnetic card reader. This combination allowed easy integration and setup for the client requirement.
The UPC-12AH was chosen for its rugged design, this unit features a 12.1-inch XGA LCD screen with a sunlight readable display with IP65 rated front bezel. The UPC-12AH sunlight readable function offers a special AR (anti-reflection) surface treatment to prevent reflection, which ensures excellent visibility in daylight conditions. The UPC-12AH also offers a wide temperature range of -10°C ~ +55°C, allowing ease of use and reliability in harsh environments. The UPC-12AH provides many expansion interfaces including one standard 32-bit PCI slot for various PCI add-on cards, and one PCIe Mini card socket for a small form factor extender such as a wireless module.
To allow for card payments to be taken, we opted for the AFLP-12AMSR. This unit is easy to use, configure and implement, and can also link to a numerical number pad for PIN (Personal Identification Number) input.
The client was very impressed with the solution provided. The display was easy to read and navigate, and held up against continuous usage and bad weather. This system has helped the client reduce operating costs, increase efficacy and accuracy, all within an attractive and timeframe.
A recent survey into how operators have perceived the introduction of the new POS has been very positive. With this in mind, ease of use and how resilient the unit is, the client is now looking to role this solution out across the world.
