Ticketing / Barrier systems Amplicon

The march of Ethernet and TCP/IP has affected all areas of Intelligent Transportation Systems, not least in the ticketing and barrier systems arena. Many distributed systems were previously connected using a serial interface such as RS232 and RS485. To provide complete integration of such systems into an IP backbone, Amplicon provide Serial to Ethernet converters. These innovative devices allow equipment with legacy serial interfaces to be added to an IP network allowing them to communicate across a LAN, WAN or even the internet! The NPort 5600 series is widely used on the LUL network as part of an intercom communication system. Other models in the range are regularly used to connect fire and access control panels to a site LAN saving the expense of regular maintenance visits by a technician with a laptop.

New barrier and ticketing systems are often networked directly with Ethernet negating the requirement for a serial to Ethernet converter. System builders and OEMs will often require a high reliability Industrial Ethernet switch to fit inside their products to connect together devices inside the machine and to provide a connection to other machines on the network. The EDS-205A/208A are an ideal low cost rail approved switch with optional fibre-optic connectivity. The S14 switch is a low cost Industrial 4 port switch with Network Rail approval - documentation available on request. The EOM-104 is an embedded Industrial Ethernet switch with extended temperature range and 'Turbo Ring' capability which allows redundant networks to be formed. This gives the integrator the advantage of a system with built in communication redundancy between nodes - an easy to achieve differentiator over competitive solutions.

Rail ticket dispensers  

Distributed ticketing / barrier systems often require processing power in 2 places. Firstly, a relatively low power embedded processor board is required in each machine and secondly a higher performance (Core 2 Duo or above) rackmount or embedded computer is required at the head end to provide to manage all the devices on the network. Amplicon can service all areas of Industrial computing for such systems from a PC/104 computer board to a Quad-core Xeon based server system. Remote I/O modules are also a very valuable part of any OEM or system integrator's armoury. These units can transmit analogue or digital data (such as door contact closures, PIRs, proximity sensors and temperature sensors) and distribute the information across a fibre-optic or copper based Ethernet LAN. The ioLogik E1200 has a 2 port switch built-in and is very low cost allowing the units to be daisy-chained around a site simply and inexpensively.
