| A. To connect using the Ethernet connection. Before connecting the DE-311 to the host PC, a suitable Ethernet crossover cable is required and the TCP/IP parameters must be compatible with those of the DE-311. The default IP address of the DE-311 is in the scope of the Private Network 192.168.xxx.xxx. and is set to 192.168.127.254. If these parameters are not compatible and can not be made compatible, please see the section 'To Connect using the Serial connection'. 1. Check the properties of the TCP/IP binding to the network interface card (NIC) to ensure the IP address and the Sub-Net mask are compatible. For test purposes, setting these parameters to a non-DHCP configuration in the range 192.168.127.1 to 192.168.127.253 and 255.255.255.0 for the IP address and Sub-Net respectively. 2. Test the TCP/IP stack configuration has been correctly made by the operating system by running the PING command. Open a command line shell (DOS Window) and running the command 'PING 127.0.0.1'. This should respond with a message indicating four packets were sent and four packets received. 3. Test the TCP/IP binding to the NIC by running the command 'PING 192.168.127.1' (substituting a different IP address if a different one was set above) and again, this should respond with a message indicating four packets were sent and four packets received. At this stage, there should be no configuration issues regarding the host PC and connecting the DE-311 can proceed. 4. Set SW1 to OFF 5. Connect the power supply to the DE-311 and ensure the Power and the Ready LED illuminate. 6. Push and hold the reset button until the Ready LED turns off, release the reset button and the LED will re-illuminate. Do not worry if the Ready LED starts to flash, just release the reset button. 7. Connect the Ethernet cable and ensure the Link LED illuminates on the DE-311 and if one is fitted to the other end of the link, this is illuminated too. 8. Test the TCP/IP connection to the DE-311 by running the command 'PING 192.198.127.254'. This should respond with a message indicating four packets were sent and four packets received. 9. The configuration can now be changed by running the command 'TELNET 192.198.127.254' to access the DE-311's settings and these can be changed as required, such as an appropriate IP Address or DHCP, following the guide in Appendix A and the appropriate sections of the manual. To Connect using the Serial connection. Before connecting the DE-311 to the host PC, a suitable a Serial modem (9-way to 9-way wired pin to pin) cable is required. 1. Set SW1 to ON. 2. Connect the power supply to the DE-311 and ensure the Power and the Ready LED illuminate. 3. Push and hold the reset button until the Ready LED turns off, release the reset button and the LED will re-illuminate. Do not worry if the Ready LED starts to flash, just release the reset button. 4. Connect serial cable between the PC and the DE-311. 5. Open a terminal emulator such as HyperTerminal (Microsoft) or PComm Lite (Moxa) and configure it as VT100 emulation. 6. Configure the COM port the cable is connected to as 19200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit (19200, 8, N ,1). 7. The configuration can now be changed by opening the COM port to access the DE-311's settings and these can be changed as required, such as an appropriate IP Address or DHCP, following the guide in Appendix A and the appropriate sections of the manual. 8. When the configuration is complete, set SW1 to OFF and disconnect the serial cable. |
